Andaman Beach Club

For those of you looking for something a little bit different from your day, those guys over at the Aonang Cliff Beach Resort and Spa have come up with something that is pretty unique in the area - an eco beach club.

Based in the quiet but up-and-coming Ao Nammao area, the Andamana Beach Club screams “different” as soon as you come across the towering bamboo sign at the side of the road. Taking the turn off the main road and into the nature that remains untouched here, you are greeted by what looks like the secret hideaway of Robinson Crusoe. A large bamboo archway welcomes you and the first thing visitors must do is cross an all wooden suspended bridge that carries you across a fresh water lagoon.

If you are a guest at the Aonang Cliff Beach Resort and Spa, they have frequent and free shuttle services running from their resort to here, and the journey takes just 8 minutes. Upon arrival, the club staff welcomes you with cold fragrant towels, a refreshing drink and a private locker for your valuables. Refreshing showers, private toilets and a cozy lounge make you realise that this is a beach day with a difference!

You are now ready to explore the different beach experiences from bamboo daybeds in the trees, hammocks swinging in the breeze or comfortable bean bag lounges on the sand. Tropical drinks and yummy snacks will be served throughout the day. Their private beach of 150 metres of natural sand is framed by a canopy of untouched mangroves and palm trees, and the utmost care was taken when constructing the club to not destroy any of the surrounding vegetation. The entire place is made from wood, which only adds to the all-natural vibe the club exudes, and the open-plan architecture lets the cool sea breeze flow naturally throughout the place.

That lagoon pool we crossed on the way in is perfect for cooling off if you don’t fancy a dip in the sea. Fantastic for those with kids, as they can have a blast without the parental worries of wandering off! While the kids play, Mum and Dad can treat themselves to a much-needed massage, or take advantage of some of the many activities on offer. If that’s not enough to keep you occupied, the attached Aonang Cliff Beach Fitness Club offers Muay Thai, Yoga, Tai Chi and is lauded by Tripadvisor as a “must see” attraction. If staying in one place is a chore for you, the Andamana even has it’s very own longtail boat available for trips to the tropical local islands for some snorkelling, sunbathing and exploration - all departing from their private beach. Or you can borrow a canoe and take a paddle along the quiet coast line of Ao Nammao, or even take advantage of their electric bikes to experience Thai life on traffic free roads. There really is no place like this in the area, that offers a real, private beach experience along with food, drinks, entertainment and activities all in a safe, relaxed and friendly environment. It demands to be investigated! Opening time from 9am to 5pm (to be extended in high season) Public entrance from now until Oct 31, 2014 free of charge Nov 1, 2014 onwards will see a small charge of 150THB per person per day (children under 12 years FREE).
