There are 130 bigger and smaller islands in the Andaman Sea near Krabi. Some of them are part of the national parks of Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi. The biggest Koh Hai (Yai) which is inhabited by a number of residents and is home to the renowned Six Senses resort, the second largest island is Koh Lanta. Koh Phi Phi home to the famous Maya bay and is often confusingly thought to be a part of Phuket province. The remaining islands do not have beaches or much land which is habitable but are great places to swim, dive and sail around for spectacular scenery.

Koh Lanta is separated into two islands, the larger Koh lanta Yai (large) is where the vast majority of hotels, guest houses and tourist activities are and is the place to seek more lively activities going on. Koh lanta Yai is home to the island group’s popular beaches, Katiang Bay, Long Beach, Phra Ae beach and Bamboo bay to name a few. If you are looking for the quintessential beach to visit and take photos on then this is your island.
The smaller island of Koh Lanta Noi (north) is peaceful and quiet as it is mainly home to locals and doesn’t draw the attention of tourists and travel agencies. If you are looking for a quiet, cheap and secluded beach or place to stay this is your island. You just better have a translator with you or be able to speak a little Thai to get by.
This beach reached international fame after the movie “The beach” starring Leornardo DiCaprio used the famous beach on Maya Bay for the majority of it’s shooting location. Koh Phi Phi has since exploded with a huge number of both budget accommodation up to 5 star accommodation as well as numerous restaurants and amenities to compliment the stay of any visitors. Koh Phi Phi is made up of a group of islands, Phi Phi Don is home to all of the accommodation and activities, Phi Phi Lei hostss a number of great diving sites and the infamous Maya Bay, the other sister islands of Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Noi are great diving and snorkeling sites but ther is no accommodation on these islands, Bamboo island just north of Koh Phi Phi Don has a great beach Bamboo beach where you can snorkel with thousands of fish and sea creatures.
Of all of the locals islands around the Ao nang beach area Koh Poda is the main attraction with beautiful white sand beaches, crystal clear water and numerous fish to swim around and take photos of. Koh Poda is only a 10 m
Koh Hong is actually a small archipelago made up of numerous islands but most famous is the main island Koh Hong (In Thai means “room”) and is actually a large lagoon inside of the island and is accessible only by longtail boat. About a 30 minute boat ride from Ao Nang beach and 10 minutes from Klong Muang beach
